Re: Distributor frozen in GPA engine block
Russ, An excellent penetrant here in the US is Kroil. You just have to have patience and let the penetrant work. If it were me, I would spray it daily for a week and then try and rotate it with a strap wrench. If it still won't budge then I would talk to a good machinist/welder and they may be able ...

Re: Took my GPA for a Swim
Bob S., You are so correct. Luckily I had very few people watching and it allowed me to learn how my GPA went into and out of the water. Bob A., Thank you for all your help over the years. One day I hope to make it to one of you amphib meetings that look fantastic! Definitely something to try and do...

Took my GPA for a Swim
Everyone, I had to see how it went in the water and took it to a local lake to try her out and see if I had any major leaks. After 7 years and numerous mistakes she swam: http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/1075/medium/Swim_20110624_09.JPG I made a number of mistakes starting out in the water by tr...

Question on Wing Canvas and Document Pouch
Everyone, I received the wing canvas and travel pouch canvas from Beachwood Canvas and have a couple questions: My NOS outer windshield has holes that go all the way through the tubing where the canvas attaches suggesting that the attachment for the canvas were screws rather than the bayonets that r...

Emergency Brake
I am having problems with the emergency brake not releasing properly. I am trying to understand where the spring attaches to the GPA body. If it is the tab with the hole in it on the prop tunnel then the spring would rest on the tunnel which does not seem correct. A few other issues I am trying to r...

Re: GPA 2196
Tony, You are correct in that I am almost finished. I need to do the following: 1) Water test the vehicle (it is all buttoned up and ready to test on the water). 2) I need to have it painted one more time to get all the scrapes, nicks, and spot welding done after it was initially painted along with ...

Re: Holes---help
David,
I agree with Bob, the holes on the first photo are not standard on a GPA. The last two photos show where the junction block screws would atttach.

Re: Surf shield ?
David,
There are two shoulder bolts that stick up and catch the surf shield (there are special brackets on the surf shield). I will see if I have any pictures and post.

Re: Need Answers to some questions
Bob, Thanks for your answers. I still do not understand why the manual says 5/16 binding head screws for the floorboards if they were bolts. I have ordered the seal from Beechwood along with a few other items. Glenn, Your leads to other posts was helpful. Hopefully, Beechwood will come through as I ...

Need Answers to some questions
Everyone, I am in the final stages (which may take longer than I had hoped) of the restoration and need a couple answers to some questions: 1) What do people use for the floorboard screws. The manual calls for binding head screws 5/16-18 x 5/8" (?) I cannot find a source for 5/16" binding ...

Need Help on Wiring
Everyone, I am on the final stages of the wiring and have hit a snag. My GPA is a late model with the filter box in the passenger vent side and not the three filter setup underneath the dash. The wiring diagram for a GPW suggests some kind to two post junction terminal for the VR-BAT to the ammeter ...

Front Drive Shaft Hull Seal
Everyone, I am in the process of installing the drive shafts and hull seals and was trying to figure out the front transfercase (front drive line) to hull seal. Does the seal install from the outside of the hull with the rubber part of the ring on the outside of the hull. I have the new neoprene sty...

Rudder Cable
Everyone,
I am in the process of installing my rudder cable and wanted to know what the recommendation was for how many wraps on the spool is required? The manual does not say anything about this or at least I did not see it. Any recommendations on how best to install?
Thanks in advance,
Donovan.
