Starter Info

Post by Donovan »

Does anyone know what the Auto-lite equivalent of the GPA starter is? I have looked at all my references and cannot find what the Auto-lite number would be. The manual says it is made by Ford and my starter says GPA on it, no Auto-lite number.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Donovan.

Autolit number

Post by richardfs »

Possible the reason no Auto lite number exists is that it was only made by Ford.

The only difference between the standardard 6Volt starter made by Autolite and the GPA starter is the bridging in the field coils. All parts other wise are identical.

In my GPA notebook: 12 Volts starter: Autolite MZ 4124 1F. For 6 volts: MZ 4113. Armature 12 volts: MZ 2089
I hope this all is right.

Jan/Richard,

Thanks. I am trying to see what type of Bendix drive would fit the starter. Someone told me the springs are larger/stronger on the 12V version as compared to the 6V. If anyone has a Napa or other comparable number for the bendix drive, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Donovan.
