Wes K,
From the inside off the bracket to the inside off the engine plate is 177 mm
Do you have the original generator on it ? it looks so small.

I am fairly certain it is the correct generator. I suspect the rear lower support bracket is too short and it may have the wrong generator pulley.

My idea is that you do not have the right pulley on it and that your bracket on the bloc is a GPW one, GPA is longer. Picture will follow.

The long brackets in the photo are what we have 7 1/4" long.
The genny is 8 7/8" between the end plates.
So that leaves us with the correct genny, the correct front engine mount plate, the correct rear support bracket and correct rubber bushings and the correct pulley and it all lines up fine. Only problem is the 1/2" stack of washers at the front. I am convinced at this point that the space is normal and there is suppose to be a solid round spacer there. :?

Wes,
You are right. The generator mount has a spacer approximately 5/8 to 3/4" in thickness. Sorry I was so late responding but I did not have the generator mounted and it is one heavy little monster!!
Here is a picture:
Good luck,
