Gearbox Main Shaft bearing

Help,
I am replacing the bearings from my gearbox but the bearing (GP-7065) on the Transmission Main shaft has the shield on the inside from the gearbox or outside (transfer case)?.
If you look at the Maintenance Manual page 0700-86 the shield is on the inside. If you look at page 0800-94 Fig. 1 the shield is on the tranfer case side. What is correct ???????

Both are correct. The problem is that they modified the transmission and the manual is wrong. Does your transmission have a raised Letter "H" under the fill plug?

Steve,
There is not a H under the fill plug only a big F and the no: GPW 7006 above the fill plug.
There is a lot of discussion about the oil pumping from the transfercase in the gearbox.

Cees what he means to say is that there are two type a early and a late type with the H on it .
The one with the H is different , I believe the oil level and some other things wich are better then the early ones.

There is a way to "fix" the transmission to prevent oil travelling to the transfercase and I will see if I can dig it out and find the reference to it. It requires adding a sleeve and seal (on inside of transmission and a bearing with the shield on the backside (outside of transmission), if I recall correctly. I will try and find it and post here.

The " H " means that there is a closed / sealed bearing between transmission and tranfercase.
The first type of transmission has the drain- & fillerplugs fitted
on the right side of the transmission case. (Cees)
The second type has both plugs on the left side and filler / level plug
a little higher.
The third type has the " H " mark and again a little higher position.
The oil pumping problem can be solved by drilling a hole in the transmission and a hole is the transfer case.
If you take a look at the old KTR magazines or the recently received
DVD from KTR you can find the correct size and position of this modification.
In the book of Emile Becker you can find pictures of the different
types of transmissions.
