PTO pulley questions

Hi Everyone, I am rebuilding a PTO from a GPA. The bushing that is inside the pulley hub is worn. I can make another, but would prefer to buy NOS is possible. Does anyone know a source for this bushing?

Secondly, my steel pulley is loose on the hub. It appears the rivet holes in the pulley may be worn, there appears to be about 1/16" of play at each of the rivet holes. The pulley should be tight to the hub, correct?

I was thinking of replacing the rivets, or perhaps installing stud type fasteners instead. I may also rotate my pulley 45 degrees and drill fresh rivet holes in the pulley since the old ones appear egged-out. Has anyone done similar repairs, or what are your thoughts. My foremost concern is functionality.

Thank you, he has some very nice stuff on his site! However, I was not referring to the water pump, I was referring to the pulley on the transfer case PTO that drives the bilge pump. I will attempt the repairs I described, and hopefully they will work out fine. The rear PTOs on the GPAs are certainly wonderful little mechanisms!

Hi Daniel,
My under standing is that you are describing the pulley on the back of the trans case,
I feel you basicly have the right idea. If it was mine I would remove the four old rivits and remove the pulley. Then you can inspect how badly the hub holes have elongated. If they are not bad drill them out a size bigger and put new rivits in. If the holes are to warn for this weld them up with a mig welder, grind them smooth then using the pulley spot with a drill through the old rivit holes to mark the position on the hub. Then drill new holes in the marked the position on the hub. Rerivit the rub back to the pulley. I would avoid drilling 4 new holes in the pulley and the hub as it will look like "Swiss cheese".

Regarding the bronze bush for this pulley.
I do not know of any NOS bushs, but it is nothing special. You can buy most standard sizes bushes from bearing companies. You may need to shorten it to the required length. If this gets to difficult take it to a machine shop and they will easily make you a bush to suit.
Failing that if you are stuck I will make you one.

Let me know how you go and if I can help.

Best regards
Richard
