New devellopments of GPA 4928

Post by bobassel »

Hello to you all

After 3 "try outs" I finaly closed all the leaks in my GPA.
It is very hard to see were the water is comming from in the hull
when you suddenly see water everywere!
Most of the leaks came through the shaft of the bolts of the
spring brackets.
You have the bracket and the hull and between those you
put a rubber seal.
You install the bolt inside the frame and put some ajusting
washers and screw on the castle nut with cotter pin.
I solved the leaking problem of the bolts by using the bolt and washer
with some "Shell Tixophalte" sealer and on the outside allso
the sealer with a washer and castle nut.
This problem above was the main leaking problem!
There were some other small leaks on some welding points.
An other leak was on the rear axle propellor shaft rubber sealing boot
to the hull.
I solved this to by puting extra Tixophalte sealer between the boot
and hull and I changed the assembling (with only bolts) into bolts
spring washers and nuts.

An other problem that appeared was the shifting!
When putting the clutch pedal and put the gear in first , second and third
there was no problem.
But with the engine on and driving I hardly could shift in second!??
I was very afraid that I had to remove the whole transmission.
After checking the synchronizer shifting plates and the synchronizer
springs I found out that everything was in place.
Suddenly I discovered that the transmission shift plate was broken :o
Because the transmission was working o.k. when I started in Oktober
I didn't took it appart and only controled it and changed the oil.

I drained the transmission oil and looked for the small missing part in
transmission housing with a grabber , magnet and other things but I
didn't find anything??? :?
I installed a new shift plate and fresh oil and the transmission was shifting
perfect!
Now the interieur is ready and complete even with the wooden floors
in the rear cargo space behind the rear seat.

I have to finish the windscreen and install the rubber deck seals.
Then the final spray coating and its blue registratition number and
go to our first amphib meeting!
