Building questions

Post by GlennV »

Hi guys,

slowly but surely, i'm making progress .... but there are some things that puzzle me !

For instance :

- can anyone tell me how the wire from the fuelsender is routed ? Is this through the chassis ?

- does anyone have a picture + some mesurements for the canvas that fits in the underside of the windshield frame ? I've also seen a rubber replacement, but i heard it should be canvas ....

- what kind of locking pin should i use for the small knuckle axles of the capstan winch ? Should this be a cotterpin or another kind of pin ?

Thanks for your replies,
Glenn

YES

Rubber on early windshield, same as GPW, webbing on late model, repro available at Beachwood Canvas.

Just a plain metal tube, don't know its name in english language.

Hello Glenn,

Wiring fuelsender:
I can't help you on the wiring question, this will be a puzzle for me later as well :(

Windshield:
Canvas under the windshield frame is for the later versions, rubber is for the earlier versions, so both are correct. My windshield has canvas (gpa#8787) and if you want I can take a photo and measurements for you, but I think you need rubber on your serial number windshield, perhaps Bob or Peter can tell you more about their rubber versions?

Capstan joint:
The locking pin for the capstan joints are special pins, they are a little conic and will only fit from one side, I have no photo record of one, but if you want I think I can take one later for you. I restored 3 capstan winches so far (one on my former GPW, one on our M29C and the last one of my GPA) and I'm allmost shure I must have one of these pins somewhere......
Regards,

Leo Verhagen

Glenn a late model is not through the frame chassis but with the other wires through the railing at the right side.
early is through the chassis
