Rear Compartment Wooden Panels

Everyone,

Happy New Year!!!

As I continue my restoration of the rear compartment on the GPA we are trying to figure out where the rear support ledge is situated on the inside rear wheel wells. In addition, whether there was support on the inside at the rear of the bulkhead or if the plywood just laid along the bulkhead at the location (as it is angling inward at that point).

The other question that I was interested in was how many wooden pieces there were in the rear compartment area? I have three that are nearly NOS condition but was not sure how many there actually was. I thought someone had actually drawn up some diagrams (Peter sent me one but when we looked at the dimensions we were not sure where it went). In addition, I can not seem to find the e-mail that referred to these wooden pieces. The manual does not have anything listed and no drawings of this area. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Donovan.

Does the photo in this G503 link help?

If not I can post more photos of my rear compartment as my wooden panels look to be complete and unaltered. David

David,

Thank you. The panel shown that is shown in your listing is one that I have but I am not sure of all the others. I have this one and the other side as well as one side of the piece that goes behind the gas tank. I understand there are ones that lie flat at the bottom of each of the two rear compartments (beneath the batteries)., but are there others?

Thanks,

Donovan.

We made some full-scale plans of the rear pressed board panels, which we made out of 1/4" MDF and had to tweak when we got down to final installation. I can share them with anyone who is interested, We generated the drawings from photos.

Will do. It'll take me a couple of days to put them together. A design literate son and I digitized the shapes from a photo of the pieces that was taken from an angle. We got the shapes essentially correct. Bob Fulcher then sized them to the actual locations, make full size cartoons and sent them to me to cut the wood (we used 1/4" MDF, closer to the original stuff, at least the remaining original pieces on my particular vehicle, than plywood, in my view). I then cut them and returned them to Bob. He then fit them into the vehicle and sent them back to me for a further few adjustments. They are now installed on my vehicle, so Bob and I will have to figure out how to record the finished product, since when we were done, we hadn't anticipated a possible need to replicate our end product.

There was all this back and forth because the vehicle has been in Uxbridge, MA, 200 miles from my residence in Brooklyn and my woodworking equipment.

Regards

David, would you be willing to post the final "blueprints" here on G504 where we could all use them as a resource? Thanks for all your work in advance.
Where in Uxbridge is Bob located? I have 2 GPA's at my garage in nearby Rutland MA. David Ursin

Bob Fulcher has the full-scale templates we put together. We're trying to figure out what to do to make them available to everyone in a useful format.

Please can you make them in Autocad .dwg or .dxf Format that is easy to use for the cutting machine's.
Thanks

My son Michael converted our original drawing, derived from a photo taken at an angle, into the formats Cees requested, and Bob sent me the full scale patterns that we marked up for one of the rounds of corrections. The second round fitted the boards into the vehicle, so there's no easy way to recapture those. But these corrected patters will definitely get you into the ball park. I'm sending the patterns on to Mike to get him to incorporate these changes into his digital drawings. Since he's on the West Coast these days, and I'm on the West, figure on another week to post these files or to let folks know that I have them. (I presume that making the changes won't be a big deal since Michael was able to convert the original file very quickly.

My son Michael finally did thke drawings, bukt he did them in pdf. I'm having him redraw them in the other formats that were requested. I don't know how to post them, but anyone interested can send me a private email and I'll send them on.
