Boy could I use one of those... had to cut a prop shaft to get one off.... no worries the shaft was shot though, had been in a fire, but the prop was good..... but still have the shaft section in the prop, was going to have it pressed out some day.

Cheers,
Tony

My GPA 5510 has a pillar bearing (roller bearing) instead of the bushing that Raymund has for sale. My bearing has no provisions for grease and probably should be replaced. Any ideas on a suitable replacement?

Puller

Post by gpa7803 »

I didn't make the puller to sell it. There is no price for it. Everybody can have copies of the drawings, so it will be possible to find a machinery to make one for yourself.

I've never seen a roller bearing for the propellor shaft. It will be difficult to fit into the original housing block. I wouldn't recommend a roller bearing because it will rust and wear the propellor shaft. If the housing block is still original, it will be the best to use a brass bushing.

GPA Propellor puller

Post by richardfs »

Hi All,
I manage an engineering business that has all the machinery to make these pullers.

I am happy to make a run of these as Raymund is kindly offering his drawings.

Please let me know if you want one. The more we make in one go the lower the price will be for all.
(one offs are expensive)

Prop.Puller

Post by richardfs »

Hi All,
Looks like we have enough people interested in the prop pullers to make a production run worth while.

I am happy to do a run of about ten peices and this will keep the cost down.

Raymund could you please Email me your drawings.
This would save a lot of time in me having to design one as your s is already well proven.

My Email address is :-richard@completedrives.com.au

Once I have the drawings I will let you all know the price to manufacture.

Best regards

GPA Prop puller

Post by richardfs »

Hi,
Raymund has kindly sent me a copy of his drawings. I have given them to my machinists at work and they can be easily made.

By producing ten pullers we can make these for $250.00US + shipping.
They will take about 2 weeks to produce.

Could you please all confirm if you want one at this price.
You can either Email me direct or put a post here.

Best regards

Prop puller

Post by dmolasov »

I'm good for one at the quoted price.

Incidentally, we're peeling the onion of my GPA and, with the exception of the fuel tank, which wasn't original, there have been no unhappy surprises.

We're tackling one component at a time. Decking, front and rear seat are off, beadblasted and recoated to prevent rust formation. The bilge pump has been removed, opened, cleaned, minor repairs to rubber, repacked and put on a shelf for later reinstallation. The metal parts of the bilge system will be bead blasted (inside and out) and similarly recoated and set aside for now.

Very few rust issues; nothing major.

We're going to try to remove the engine, transfer unit, and PTO as a single system, and tackle it that way, following your advice. (We're also going to remove and work on the dash as a single subsystem.) Shifting of the transmission and the transfer unit was nominal, nothing sticking. Capstan moves properly.
